Silicon Fuzz
Medium-gain Silicon Fuzz

Following
the
guideline
established
by our previous fuzz model 'The Cow', we have
opted again for a design based on silicon transistors.
The advantages of silicon transistors versus germanium transistors can
be summarized in greater thermal stability and less background-noise in
every application. In contrast to its germanium predecessors, silicon
transistors are barely affected by enviromental conditions of
temperature.
The fuzz effect is achieved by a very precise adjust of the transistors
polarization current and that's why it's very important to use stable
and reliable devices. In this model we have adjusted that bias current
so that the effect offers a very natural decay, avoiding the 'noise
gate' abrupt effect of other models.
The Silicon Fuzz shows a low input impedance to the pick-up and a high
output impedance to the amplifier. This is essential to achieve the
characteristic sound of a classic fuzz but at the same time implies the
recommendation to place the Silicon Fuzz as the first effect in the
chain just at the guitar's output or, in any case, avoid non-true
bypass effects between the guitar and the fuzz effect.
An important advantage of this model is the possibility of easily
controlling the amount of effect using the guitar's volume. As we go
down the volume of the pick-up the sound acquires more cleanlines up to
get to the point of sounding almost completely clean if necessary. |
